Fund Types

The Douglas County Community Foundation helps donors connect with their favorite nonprofit organizations and causes through several types of funds that may be created during a donor’s lifetime or by bequest:

Donor-Advised Funds

Donor-advised funds allow donors to simplify and consolidate their charitable giving while remaining actively involved in recommending grants to nonprofit organizations. These funds also provide an excellent way to build a tradition of giving in a family.

Organization Funds

Forward-looking nonprofit organizations can establish funds for their own benefit to improve yields and reduce exposure to financial fluctuations. These funds can provide income for general operating expenses or other critical needs, and allow a nonprofit’s board to spend less time on money management.

Field of Interest Funds

Field of interest funds help donors support their particular interests or causes over many years. The fund will reflect the donor’s commitment to the arts, education, youth, the elderly, health care or other specified interests. The DCCF board of directors or the donor’s advisory committee can review grant applications and work to keep the fund focused on nonprofits that most effectively accomplish the donor’s intent.

Scholarship Funds

Scholarship funds can be structured to benefit students at any education level or for a specific institution. A fund can also be established to honor a loved one. Advisory committees assist in the selection of recipients. Our staff handles the necessary paperwork and ensures that scholarships are distributed in an equitable manner.

Unrestricted Funds

Unrestricted funds are the most flexible way to help meet the changing needs of our communities. These funds provide essential capital that allows the foundation to support innovative programs and address the needs of the community as they arise.
