Most of the grants we make are from donor-advised funds.
A donor-advised fund is a charitable account that a family or business sets up through us. The donors make gifts to the fund, and then recommend grants from it to nonprofits they want to support. Our board of directors votes on or ratifies all recommended grants.
Donor-advised funds generally do not take grant applications. Fund holders decide which charities they want to support based on their own interests. Sometimes fund holders respond to direct asks made by nonprofit staff or board members.
