Giving Back to The Arts Train

Posted Tuesday May 26, 2020

Van Go has been making a difference in the lives of youth in our community for more than 20 years.  DCCF was pleased to be able to support a technology upgrade to help meet the organization’s mission “to improve the lives of high-needs youth using art as the vehicle for self-expression, self-confidence, and hope for the future.”

From the Spring 2018 Community Grant Report:

“Ethan, the creator of the promotional video linked below, came to The Arts Train as many of participants do…in search of the meaningful employment and support services that are the core components of Van Go’s programming. His connection to photography and film was instant – he was able to articulate his creativity with an outlet that resonated with his storytelling. In addition to developing his own narrative through film, Ethan wanted to “give back” to Van Go and offered to use his new skills to benefit the organization. He proposed creating a recruitment video and, working in consultation with Marlo Angell and Van Go staff, wrote a script, created artwork, filmed and edited a product that speaks to our constituents. Thanks to Van Go’s Department of Labor (WIOA) grant, we were able to continue to pay Ethan an hourly wage for his work. The project gave him purpose, helped him set and reach goals, and confirmed belief in himself.”
