The Kansas Land Trust (KLT) preserves and protects lands of ecological, agricultural, scenic, historic, or recreational significance. In 1990 KLT grew out of the plowing of the Elkins Prairie, a 70-acre prairie near Lawrence, to hasten development. This tragedy catalyzed KLT to work with landowners to voluntarily develop conservation easements to protect critical natural areas from poorly planned development. Today KLT has developed 72 conservation easements protecting 38,000 acres in 19 counties – a conservation footprint nearly the size of Topeka, Kansas. Your donation protects our natural heritage for all future generations.
