The Kansas Land Trust (KLT) preserves and protects lands of ecological, agricultural, scenic, historic, or recreational significance. In 1990 KLT grew out of the plowing of the Elkins Prairie, a 70-acre prairie near Lawrence, to hasten development. This tragedy catalyzed KLT to work with landowners to voluntarily develop conservation easements to protect critical natural areas from poorly planned development. Today KLT has developed 74 conservation easements protecting 38,000 acres in 20 counties – a conservation footprint nearly the size of Topeka, Kansas. The Kansas Land Trust is accredited by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission. A $31 donation helps us preserve another acre of land for all future generations!
