Spotlight: Jacobs Family Fund

Posted Thursday March 11, 2021

What appealed to you most about opening a fund at DCCF? We have always heard how lucky Lawrence is to have a community foundation, but did not know a great deal about it. The more we learned, the more we realized this was something we could do as a family. We have started a partnership with our grandchildren to teach them how to invest, and each child must specify a nonprofit where a monetary donation is made at the end of each year. It has been surprising to us that some of the children have actually researched their organizations, and come prepared to tell the others why they want to give to that specific organization. We hope this will continue throughout their lives. You both work tirelessly in our community as volunteers, board members, donors, and mentors to so many.

What led you to your passion for being so intentional about giving back to our community? We both feel if you make your living in a community, you need to share your talents to help better that community. Once we both retired, we were able to donate our time, as well as our money. We have both enjoyed our time volunteering; it has been meaningful. Our children have noted our commitment to our community, and are beginning to do the same where they live. We hope in Douglas County, young people will get involved and commit to working together for the betterment of our community.
