2022 Winter Family Fund Grant, Full Circle Tenant Services, Youth Program Scholarships

Posted Tuesday July 11, 2023

Winter Family Fund grant stories always make us smile! From the 2022 Winter Family Fund grant report, Full Circle is making a difference for so many families!

"Full Circle served a 16-year old who went on the trip of a lifetime. This summer he embarked on a student exchange trip to Hiratsuka, Japan with Sister Cities Lawrence. This non-profit encourages relationships between Lawrence residents and its three sister cities, including Hiratsuka, Japan. Applicants must write an essay and submit a letter of recommendation for consideration. On this 10-day trip, this young man participated in a host of cultural and educational exchanges, including school visits, museum visits, and sightseeing tours. We were thrilled to provide $200 toward this trip!

Full Circle served 6-year old, a ten-year old, and 11-year old siblings through covering fees for them to attend Homeschool Climbing Club classes. These classes are offered by Lawrence Parks and Recreation in partnership with Climb Lawrence. In the classes, youth develop the skills and learn the fundamental elements of climbing. These youth scholarships were particularly important as these siblings are home-schooled and have had no social interaction since the start of the pandemic. Mom was so excited for the opportunity for her children to participate in some physical activity and have some social time with peers.

Full Circle served a two brothers ages 6 and 8 through enrollment in soccer with Sporting Kaw Valley. Mom reports that the boys had a blast playing and received medals at their last game. Both boys plan to continue to play soccer in the future. Additionally, we were able to provide funding for both boys to play softball through Lawrence Parks and Recreation. One of the brothers absolutely loved it, while the other decided that he’s not loving softball and wants to try something different in the future. This is one of the reasons we love providing scholarships to youth—it provides opportunities for youth to explore and expand their interests."
