LiveWell Douglas County John Drees Safe and Healthy Kids Award Fund

LiveWell Douglas County is proud to recognize John Drees for his outstanding contributions to healthcare, community safety, and education. John’s passion for the medical field led him to become one of the first paramedics in Kansas, eventually earning his BSN from The University of Kansas. His career spanned decades of service, beginning in the Emergency Department at KU Medical Center before joining the LMH Health Emergency Department in 1992, where he made an immeasurable impact.
John was a tireless advocate for safety and education, coordinated Safe Kids Douglas County, worked nationally with the Safe Kids Coalition, and produced a training video for the National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training Program in 2010. His dedication was recognized with the LMH Vision Award in 2000, and after 26 years of service, he retired as a Community Education Specialist. John’s influence extended far beyond healthcare. His distinctive voice was heard in local TV commercials, and he found joy in voiceover work, even spending time as an overnight DJ in Topeka. For 20 years, he volunteered at Audio Reader, using his voice to serve others. Known for his humor and storytelling, John left a lasting impression on everyone he met. This fund is to honor the remarkable legacy of John Drees for his unwavering dedication, compassion, and lifelong commitment to making our community safer and stronger.
