O’Connell Children’s Shelter (OCS) aims to be a leader in youth residential care. OCS offers a safe, caring, family environment where the young people in our care can develop strength and character, helping to prepare them for their futures. OCS offers an integrated blend of services and therapeutic modalities in its five residential homes (three of which are on its 125-acre property, Southeast of Lawrence and two of which are in town). OCS provides many opportunities for team building and recreation, including sporting activities, gardening, tending to ranch animals, participating in art and music, spiritual development, exploring the outdoors and other activities. OCS is developing a HOPE Center on its Ranch property. This building is the center of activity for youth to build life and job skills and participate in tutoring, group therapy and community building. OCS provides care for children and youth who have been placed in the custody of the Kansas Department of Children and Families due to abuse, neglect, or family discord. OCS also provides prevention and case management services for youth, children, and families in Douglas County with the aim of keeping families together and avoiding further system involvement. OCS has been serving at-risk youth for over 45 years. Your support is vital to ensuring OCS can continue enhancing its programming and services.
